SUBJECT VERB AGREEMENT

A. SUBJECT = .subject is the person,people that do active. i, you, they, we,he, it
B. VERB = verb is a word used to describe an action , state, or occumence and forming man part of the predicate of a setence
     kind of verb = 1 action verb : a).also know as main verb. b).action verb are words that express action ( give,eat, walk, etc ) or possesion ( have , own, ect ). c).action verb can be either transitive ( with object) or intransitive (whitout object)
    2.linking verb = a linking verb connect the subject of a setence to a noun or adjective that renamesor describes the subject
To be is, am ,are,was,were
exsampel: lisa is in love with jason
verb; seem, appear,become,grow,remain,prov,turn,look,sound,smell,feel
Exampel: she looks pale
     3.helping verb = helping verb are used before action  or linking verb to convey additional information regarding aspect of posibility ( can, could, etc ) or tme ( was , did , has, etc )
MODALS alwasys funtio as helping verbs . MODALS : can, cuold, may, might , shall, will, should, would. EXAMPEL : Budi is ( helping verb ) going ( main verb ) to florida

MAIN RULS OF SUBJECT VERB AGREEMENT
     1 subject and verb must agree in number. this is the cornerston rule that form the background of the concept. EXSAMPEL : the dog growls when it is angry.
     2.dont get confused by the words that come between the subject and verb: they do not  affect agrement. EXSAMPEL : the dog who is chewing on my jeans is usually very good
    3. prepostional phrases between the subject  and verb usually do not efect  agreement. Exampel : the colors  of the rainbow are beautiful
     4. When setence start with ''there'' or ''here'' the subject will alwasy be plaed after the verb, so care needs to be taken  to idntify it correctly. exsampel : there is a problem with balance  sheet.
     5. if two subject are joineed by and, they tipically require a plural  verb form. Exsampel  the cow and the pig are jumping over the moon
    6. verb is singular if the two subject separated by and refer to the same person or thing
    7. if one the word each, ,every ,or no come  before the subject , the verb is singular . Exsampel : no smoking and drinking is allowed
    8. if the subject are both singular and are conected by the words or, nor, neither/nor, eigther/or, and not onlly/but also the verb is singular. exsampel : jessica or christian is to blame for the acident
    9.  the only time when the object of the preposition  decides plural or singular  verb form s is when noun and pronoun subject like some, half, none, more, ect, are followed by a prepotional phrase in these setence .Exsampel : all of the chiken is gone
    10. the singular verb form is usually used for unit measurement or time . exsampel : four quartsof oil was required to get the car running.
    11.if the subject are bth plural and are connected by the words or, nor, neither/nor, oither, /or, and not only/but also, the verb, is plural.
    12. if one subject is singular and one plural and the word are conneced by the words or, nor, neither/nor,either, and not only/but also, you use the verb from the subject that is nearest the verb.
example:
- eithor the bears or the lion has escaped from the zoo.
-niether the lion nor the bear have escaped from the zoo
13.indefinite pronouns (evrything, anything,evryone,someone, somebody, nothing,eth)typically take singular vebs
Exampel : every body wants to be loved
14.except for the prounus (few, many, several, both, all, some) that always take the plural form.
Exampel: few were left alive after the food.
15. if two invinites are separated  by and they take the plural form of the verb
Exemple: to walk and to chew gum require greet skill.
16. when gerunds are used as the subject of a sentence. they take the singular verb form
Exemple: standing in the water was a bad idea.
17. collective nouns like famil, committee, herd, senate, class, croed, etc. usually take a singular verb form.
Exemple: the herd is stampeding
18. titlles of book movies, novels, etc ar treated as singular and take a singular verb.
Exemple: the burbs is a movie starring tom hanks.
